Call for Online Sessions: become a Satellite Activity at the Ocean Decade Laboratories
The Ocean Decade is calling for proposals for Satellite Activities at four Ocean Decade Laboratories that will take place throughout 2022. Each Laboratory spans 48 hours and leaves room for dozens of innovative Satellite Activities.
The seven Ocean Decade Laboratories follow on from the first international Ocean Decade Conference. They each last 48 hours, opening with a 2- to 3-hour-long Core Event and finishing with a Wrap-up two days later. The majority of the Laboratories are reserved for Satellite Activities on the respective topic which can take place anywhere around the world. As of October 2021, two Ocean Decade Laboratories (on "An Inspiring and Engaging Ocean" and "A Predicted Ocean") have been held, each featuring over 30 unique Satellite Activities. A third event on "A Clean Ocean" is scheduled to take place on 17-19 November. Another four Ocean Decade Laboratories will be held in 2022:
- "A Productive Ocean" on 22-24 February 2022
- "A Healthy and Resilient Ocean" on 9-11 March 2022
- "A Safe Ocean" on 5-7 April 2022
- "An Accessible Ocean" on 10-12 May 2022
Satellite Activities may include "pitch sessions" for new Ocean Decade programmes or projects looking for partners, the announcement of Decade Actions or commitments, Decade Action design workshops, networking opportunities, interactive "incubation" or "match-making" sessions for Decade Actions, skills training in the form of short "Master Classes", virtual exhibitions or the launch of videos or art initiatives, competitions or hackathons.
Research institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), art and cultural institutions, associations and societies are invited to submit their proposals for Satellite Activities. A wide range of formats will ensure diversity and the participation of people from different time zones and parts of the world.
Submission deadlines are approximately two months before each Laboratory:
- "A Productive Ocean" (submission deadline: 16 November 2021)
- "A Healthy and Resilient Ocean" (submission deadline: 11 January 2022)
- "A Safe Ocean" (submission deadline: 25 January 2022)
- "An Accessible Ocean" (submission deadline: 15 March 2022)
